Energy Development Corporation

Energy Development Corporation is the largest producer of geothermal energy in the Philippines and the second largest in the world. It is involved in geothermal, hydroelectric and wind power projects.

The company was previously owned by the Philippine National Oil Company, a state corporation owned by the Republic of the Philippines engaged in the exploration of resources, energy production and distribution of food to smaller electricity distributor. EDC was privatized and acquired by the Lopez group as part of its energy and power business units.



Energy Development Corporation (EDC) was established and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on March 5, 1976 to engage in the business of exploring in the first place , development and exploitation of geothermal energy projects in the Philippines. The Company started commercial operations with the commissioning of the first steam field in 1983, and extended to geothermal drilling and consultancy services. EDC became a subsidiary of Red Vulcan Holdings Corporation on November 29, 2007.

EDC operates commercial activities in four of his 13 geothermal service contract areas namely Bacon - Manito geothermal project ; Mt. Apo geothermal project ; Southern Negros geothermal project ; and Tongonan geothermal project. The Company is also in hydropower through its 60 % stake in First Gen Hydro Power Corporation, which operates the Pantabangan and Masiway hydroelectric plants in Nueva Ecija .

Other subsidiaries of the Company are EDC Drillco Corporation; EDC Geothermal Corp . ; EDC Holdings International Limited; and EDC Wind Energy Holdings, Inc.
