The Hillsong United band is an Australian band pop- rock and praise, and is part of the Youth Ministry of Hillsong Church , Hillsong United. Their music is a contemporary style of praise and worship with an alternative rock.
The band was formed by friends within the Youth Ministry of Hillsong Church, originally called 'Powerhouse Youth', led by Donna Crouch for many years. The band played in the youth meetings of Powerhouse, the band's music was sung in the Hillsong Church and other ministries of music, sometimes members contributing to the group and their albums (Darlene Zschech was in the youth group before enter the Hillsong church).
Dr. Mark Evans stated in his thesis, "A youth band was formed in the Hillsong musical group, which took what was happening in the church musically and played strong and rock, directly appealing to a younger demographic." Steve McPherson, Deb Ezzy and Donia were significant Makedonez members. Powerhouse grew and was divided into two groups of young people, 'powerhouse' (18 to 25 years old) and 'Wildlife' (12 to 16 years). Reuben Morgan , assisted by Marcus Beaumont and Tanya Riches were placed in the side Powerhouse, with former winner of Channel 5 Leg-Up 'Able' Boys Band, Joel Houston and Marty Sampson in charge of Wildlife, while Luke munnz was the main drummer, and Michael Guy Chislett the main guitarist. In the summer of 1997, the new team did a great impact on your Summer Camp youth ministry. Then came the camp, with their hearts full of God youth ministries of Hillsong Church joined into one, and the nights began calling Nights "UNITED". When we are united, God does mighty things.
The Song of Martin Smith 'Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble', was the theme song of the camp. Reuben Morgan wrote 'My Redeemer Lives', as a way for young people to continue worshiping together with other songs written for the album 'By Your Side'.
Darlene Zschech suggested to Reuben that made an album in 1998, after many songs were written in youth ministry, and the EP 'One' was recorded. The album was presented with the annual Hillsong album, and together achieved gold record in Australia. 'Everyday' was recorded in 1999. Band continued releasing an album every year, renaming as Hillsong United in 2002 after Reuben Morgan stepped down as co-leader of the band. Joel Houston, the eldest son of Pastor Brian Houston, agreed to lead the group together with Marty.
Current members of the band include Jonathon Douglass (JD), Jadwin "Jad" Gillies, Holly Watson, Annie Garratt, Bec Gillies, and Michelle Fragar, daughter of Russell Fragar. Michael Guy Chislett plays guitar and Matthew Tennikoff plays Low. THE original drummer Luke munnz LUKAS moved to the wing. The New Zealand artist, Brooke Fraser recently joined the band when she joined the church, making his first appearance on the album United We Stand .
The annual Hillsong United CD / DVD was recorded over many years in the youth conference Encounterfest October, the album being released in the first quarter of next year. The 2007 album All of the above , was the first album to be fully recorded in a studio, containing videos of songs on the DVD. The band has been in many places, bringing praise to many nations in the Americas , Europe , Asia and Africa .
From his marriage to Michelle, Marty Sampson has moved from Hillsong United to the main wing. Brooke Fraser, who has replaced him as one of the main worship leaders United, is now leading one of the main leaders of worship with Darlene and Reuben.
Often leads worship at church and has continued his strong contributions for new Hillsong albums. He has kept working on his craft of songwriting. It also helps with worship in the northern beaches, Hillsong extension service. Sampson recently released a solo album entitled "Let Love Rule."
He contributed two more songs on United, 'Devotion' (which he wrote and sang on the album) and 'Saviour King' (which he wrote with Mia Fieldes), before he officially came out. These songs are on the album All of the above.

The album All of the Above was released on March 17, 2007 in Australia , where it debuted at # 6 on the ARIA Charts . In the United States , the album was released on May 22, 2007, selling 10505 units in the first week. Debuted at # 1 on the Billboard Top Christian / Gospel Albums chart, # 1 on iTunes in selling Christian Albums and # 60 on the Billboard 200 . The first single released from the album 'Point of Difference' was a hit on Australian Christian radio.
