Mandaluyong City

The City of Mandaluyong is one of the cities of Metro Manila, the Manila Metropolitan Area. It features a business center and many businesses: Asian Development Bank, Banco De Oro, San Miguel Corporation, Southeast Asia, UniLab.
It is bounded on the west by the country's capital, Manila, to the north of the city of San Juan, east by Quezon City and City of Pasig, and the city of Makati south. Currently, its nicknames are "Tiger City of the Philippines", "Heart Metro Manila" and "the capital of shopping malls in the Philippines."

Mandaluyong is situated in the center of Metro Manila. Among the many attractions in the city is the western half of the Ortigas Center, one of the major centers of business and commerce in the metropolis (the eastern half is in Pasig). Found within the Mandaluyong portion of the Ortigas Center is the main headquarters of the Asian Development Bank and the headquarters of San Miguel Corporation, the largest company of drinks and foods of Southeast Asia.

Also located in the heart of Ortigas is the Shangri-La Plaza, comprising the Edsa Shangri-La Manila, St. Francis Towers (one of the tallest towers in the Philippines when built) and Shangri-La Plaza, adjacent to SM Megamall, one of the largest malls in Asia and the main commercial center of the largest chain of shopping malls in the country, can be found here as well as EDSA Central and Star Center. The Shaw Boulevard MRT is a shopping center itself, besides the fact that the station is connected to three other malls (Star Mall, Shangri-La Plaza and the newly renovated EDSA Central). The famous laboratory of the factory, which was UniLab is located here.

Mandaluyong got its name from the Tagalog which means many daluy which means flow. This is in reference to the many tall grasses that used to grow in the area, the grasses seemed to 'flow' in the wind.
Another possible source is the word "daluyong", which means a place or tsunami waves. This may belong to the Pasig River which crosses the city of Mandaluyong.
