Panglao Island Sunset

The beautiful island of Panglao is a small island in the Philippines, of only eighty square kilometers, which is connected to Bohol by two causeways. Little more will have to make goldfish swim between turquoise and emerald waters or lie in a hammock by the sun toasting left sipping a pina colada. This island is a popular tourist destination and one of the main tourist destinations in the Philippines.
Panglao is a Philippine Island in the southwest of the province of Bohol. It is characterized by two bridges with the city Tagbilaran connected. The island has an area of 99.25 km ² and 62,000 inhabitants (2007). It is in the communities Dauis (northeast) and Panglao divided (southwest).


Bohol is a popular tourist island that has many hotels and beaches. Alona Beach is the most famous beach of the island, but also Danao Beach, Dumaluan Beach and other beaches have become increasingly popular. In the tourism industry Panglao is partly as an alternative to the more widely known Boracay offered. The beaches of Panglao also be used as start point for boat tours around Iceland to Virgin, and are also in divers very popular.

As tourism in Bohol, Panglao and in particular, in recent years steadily increased, in May 2008 with the preparations for the construction of the Panglao Bohol International Airport started (PBIA). After initial planning of this new international airport is expected to become operational in April 2010, and make the island more accessible for tourists. On the north coast Panglao you find the cave with its underground lake Hinagdanan. Countless bats living in the cave. They received their name from the Cebuano for Hagdan = conductor. The name means "a man descends on a ladder," which commemorates the discovery.
