Gap

Gap is a group of clothing stores based in San Francisco in the United States founded in 1969 by Donald Fischer, because, according to legend, it could not find jeans to his liking. The name was blown away by his wife in reference to the "generation gap" (generation gap).

Gap offers collections for men, women, children and baby, clothes, underwear, accessories and shoes. It also provides small items for interior decoration ( candles, perfumes, etc..).

The company's products are divided in five brands main eponymous Gap, Banana Republic , Old Navy , Piperlime and Athleta, mainly sold in stores controlled directly by the company itself. As of September 2008, The Gap, Inc. employs approximately 150,000 employees and operates more than 3,100 stores worldwide and also in Italy in Milan, Rome, Turin and other points of presence especially at shopping centers. It is the leading clothing company of the United States in the world has recently been overtaken by Spain's Inditex , which owns such brand Zara.

The Gap is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GPS, the Fisher family has so far maintained a significant share of the capital and the management of the company. Donald Fisher served as Chairman of the Board of Directors until 2004 , and his successor was his son Robert . Both Donald Doris Fisher are still part of the Board of Directors.

Glenn K. Murphy is the ' CEO today. His predecessors were Millard Drexler and Paul Pressler.
