Kitanglad Mountain Range

The Mount Kitanglad Range Natural Park is a protected area within the province of Bukidnon, Mindanao in the Philippines. It is located about 50 kilometers south-east of a straight line in Cagayan de Oro. The area around the volcano Kitanglad on 14 December 1990 as National Park.

Locals Bukidnons, made up of the indigenous tribes of the Manobo and Talaandig live mostly in the forests, which they regard as holy, as these areas are used as burial grounds. Locals live from the forest, which they use as a source of food, but also for the natural medicine. Mountaineers and hikers must obtain a permit before entering the mountains of the tribes, and elders perform a ritual to appease the spirits of the ancestors benevolently.

Flora and fauna 
It comes into the park in front of a total of 58 tree species and a total of 185 different species of hard wood species. The wildlife in the Kitanglad Mountains is rich. Thus, for a total of 63 counts were species of mammals, such as flying squirrels, yellow face horseshoe bat ( Rhinolophus virgo ) and the Philippine deer are recorded. The Mindanao-rat tail hair of the National Park is the only known habitat on the island of Mindanao. There were also 25 species of reptiles and 26 species of amphibians in the area around the park can be found.


Of the total of 168 species of birds, 37% are endemic to the island of Mindanao and the Philippines, as the Mindanao parrot, the Apolori, the Mindanao Scops Owl, Mindanao Brown Dove, the Mindanao wide mouth, the Philippine Eagle and the Philippine hood eagle.
